SHU9, A profibus multiturn absolute encoder with 30 mm hollow shaft for heavy industries and harsh environments
MEYLE is launching a new multiturn absolute encoder (Ø 90 mm) suitable for heavy industries and harsh environments. The SHU9 allies mechanical and electronic advantages: robustness, speed of installation, simplicity of maintenance, easy addressing via switches under PROFIBUS, etc. Its main applications are in the iron and steel industry, the paper industry, agro-foodstuffs and engine manufacturers. A high-performance encoder, designed to last under difficult conditions. Like all the MEYLE absolute encoders, the SHU9 is high-performance and reliable. It has an overall resolution from 0 to 536 870 911 points and enjoys a long working life under intense usage conditions such as temperatures up to (+75°C) and high production speeds. A Ø 30 mm hollow shaft suited to the needs of heavy industry. An advantage of the SHU9 encoder is compact size for a model with a hollow shaft of Ø 30 mm mounted directly on the motors. The encoder is installed on the shaft with a "RDI" insulating ring which protects the encoder electrically and thermally. This ring, which will fit shafts of Ø 12 to 25 mm, simplifies the positioning of the encoder on the shaft : the operations of mounting/dismounting are practically instantaneous using standard tools. The clamping of the hollow shaft is by means of a simple concentric pipe clamp. Another very useful feature is the option DAC and MEFLEX anti-rotation devices, which enables the SHU9 encoder to readily cope with considerable misalignments : axial 3 mm, radial, 0,3 mm and angular 5°. An encoder which conforms to the standard PROFIBUS DP EN 50170 The SHU9 encoder is configured to communicate with industrial automation systems via PROFIBUS. Under this field bus, which has become a standard, it is possible to interconnect up to 32 stations per segment (126 with repeaters). Furthermore, it allows transmission speeds of 9.6 Kbauds to 12 Mbaud (RS 485). In installation, the unique addressing of each encoder is set by dip-switches or by programming. Easy installation and maintenance An important aspect of the SHU9 encoder, is its separate terminal box which facilitates fast & easy installation and maintenance. Thanks to this functional architecture, the connections are made remotely in the separate terminal box and not in the encoder. This also contributes to limiting the risks of damage to the encoder due to the industrial environment. Furthermore, the radial load on the encoder has been reduced thanks to the use of a single connection cable between the encoder and the bus. Economies of wiring Like all field buses, PROFIBUS is an "information vehicle", using only four wires: two for the data and two for the power supply. Thus with a minimum of wiring it is possible to connect up to 100 encoders to the same bus! Furthermore the SHU9 encoder is easily installed in a configuration incorporating a number of encoders. This is because, in order to facilitate installation in series (double or treble) of encoders of different types (incremental, absolute, tacho encoders etc. High performance, easy to install and use, this new SHU9 encoder confirms the leadership of MEYLE in the field of Heavy Duty encoders.
